The beginning?

What is the Internet? the Cloud? Artificial Intelligence (AI)? Anyone who has any sort of technical experience would probably be able to define those terms, but there are still some who believe those services originate from thin air, just like their WiFi connection – and even those who know it takes a tremendous amount of infrastructure to maintain those services, very few dare to provide them. Take for example this blog I decided to create (and that you decided to visit), this little corner of the Internet is possible thanks to the server hosting it in my basement, my Internet Service Provider (ISP), the Domain Name System (DNS) servers around the world that translate your search into my Internet Protocol (IP) address, and ultimately your own ISP and devices that access it. That is a horribly simplified explanation of it, but it gets the point across.
So what do you do?
Me? Not much, I am nothing but a humble tech enthusiast attempting to take control of my own digital fate in a world where rarely anyone does. These days it is up to big corporations what to do with your digital identity and assets, and if they really wanted, they could make all of that disappear with the push of a button. Would they get sued to oblivion? Probably. Would they get away with it? Just as likely. Now, I am not some kind of genius that coded all of my own software infrastructure in Assembly or something, I heavily rely on open-source software and the saints who maintain it (in many cases for free), so I would like to take a moment to thank the real geniuses who help the community to achieve more digital independence. At the same time, I am curious to see how far this little project will get. Could it be the beginning of something? Perhaps this space will only ever be a proof of concept and a place where I can think at loud, then I will get bored of it and pretend that it never existed, but who knows, I am just proud to have a little corner in the Internet that I can truly call my own – until then...
